For broadcast TV executives, the rollout over the next several years of NEXTGEN TV, the new digital broadcast standard using the ATSC 3.0 capabilities made possible through the efforts of Pearl TV, Sinclair Broadcast Group, South Korea’s Samsung and SK, and other partners is a story filled with promises of future profit-generation opportunities.

Perhaps they should be a bit more concerned about the swift rollout of something far more Americans have top-of-mind awareness of: 5G.

At least, that’s a worry noted today in the MAZ video roundup e-newsletter, which cites a July 21 report from¬†Streaming Media¬†every broadcast TV station owner should read. This publication asserts that “82% of broadcasters believe 5G will replace traditional distribution.”
