This Georgia Cluster Just Got Sold

The motto of the city of Waycross, Ga., is “opportunity in every direction.”

For one local broadcaster, opportunity means cashing out.

With the filing late Tuesday of a Form 314 with the FCC, a trio of FMs have been sold.

The buyer is another Georgia-based broadcaster, led by sole owner John Higgs.

For $1.4 million, his Higgs Multimedia Group of Douglas, Ga., is acquiring Mattox Broadcasting‘s three radio stations in the Waycross, Ga., market:

  • Class A WWUF-FM 97.7, a Hot AC licensed to Waycross
  • Class A Classic Hits WSGT-FM 107.1, licensed to Patterson, Ga.
  • Class C2 WKUB-FM 105.1, a Country station licensed to Blackshear, Ga.

Guest Technology LLC represented Mattox Broadcasting in this transaction.

Serving as the seller’s legal counsel is Frank Jazzo of Fletcher Heald & Hildreth.

The buyer’s legal counsel is very much known to Jazzo: It is Matthew McCormick of Fletcher Heald & Hildreth.

Higgs is also the sole member of Broadcast South LLC, which owns seven stations in Georgia.

Higgs also operates WOKA-AM & FM in Douglas, Ga., via a Time Brokerage Agreement.
