Day’s Time Is Now For Telemundo Programming Role

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises has a signature morning show on its Telemundo Spanish-language broadcast TV network named Un Nuevo Día.

That translates to “A New Day,” which is indeed the case for its programming department.

Former Univision SVP/Programming and Operations Ronald Day has been appointed as EVP/Programming for Telemundo Networks.

He’s a veteran media executive and spent a little more than 2 years in the role at Univision before exiting the TV world to become President and co-founder of Chaban Wellness LLC, a Miami-based entity that owns, manages and markets the product line Yes You Can!™ by Alejandro Chaban, and the website www.yesyoucan.com.

But, he’s mostly known for his tenure at Univision Communications, which includes an 8 1/2-year stint as SVP/Programming, Promotions & Special Projects for its TeleFutura network.

Before that, Day spent six years as an Executive Producer at Univision — for the “Cristina” talk show starring veteran talent Cristina Saralegui.

The jump to Telemundo is actually a return of sorts: From September 1992-August 1995 he was a senior producer at the network.

Day replaces Jesus Torres Viera, who exited the company in June 2017 after rising to his most recent role in March 2016.

Day’s new job will see him take responsibility for overseeing the entertainment programming strategy and execution, including program planning, scheduling, acquisitions, and the production of Telemundo’s daily entertainment shows.

As head of the Network programming team, he will also be a member of the Scripted Development Committee working closely with Telemundo Global Studios in the development and production of primetime original content.

Day will also partner with the network’s Music team in the development of Reality primetime programming, as well as with Marketing, Research, and Talent & Production Management Services.

Lastly, he will also oversee and provide creative leadership to the Universo team.

Day is based in Miami and reports to Telemundo Networks President Luis Silberwasser.

The naming of Day to his new duties at Telemundo comes alongside the appointment of  Amanda Calpin as Chief Financial Officer for Telemundo Networks, and the selection of Ignacio Barrera as SVP/Sales and Business Development for Telemundo Global Studios.

Calpin was previously CFO for the Telemundo Station Group; Barrera was formerly Chief Content Officer at Albavision where he was responsible for content development of scripted, reality shows and alternative productions, content acquisitions, scheduling and promotion. Prior to that, he was Sr. EVP/COO for Tepuy International, now Telemundo International. In that role, Barrera was responsible for overseeing all European and Latin American territories’ sales.
