Toohey Takes A Key Finance Role At Cumulus

As A Harvard University undergrad, John Toohey worked at the school’s student-run radio station, WHRB. Now, he’s back in radio — working with John Abbot and the finance team at Cumulus Media.


Toohey is now working under EVP/CFO Abbot as VP/Finance for the radio broadcasting company.

His new role includes financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and special projects and will split his time between New York and Atlanta, where Cumulus was born under the prior leadership of John and Lew Dickey Jr. 

Toohey joins a reborn Cumulus under the leadership of CEO Mary Berner after a 12-year stint with Charter Communications and the company Charter bought, Time Warner Cable. At Charter, his most recent role was as Group VP/Media Sales Finance for Spectrum Reach.

Toohey’s media finance background includes five years with NBC, seven years with CBS, and four years with Cablevision.

Abbot called Toohey “a high caliber professional who brings deep and relevant experience to Cumulus.”

Toohey added, “I am pleased to join Cumulus and to come full circle, having started my media career at WHRB-FM, Harvard’s student radio station. I am excited to work with John Abbot and the rest of the incredible team at Cumulus.”
