With a booming 100kw signal, Roanoke, Va.-licensed WVTF-FM 89.1 serves all of Southwestern Virginia as its primary NPR member station.

The station is owned by Virginia Tech, and it is now gaining a foothold in Richmond.

This sets up a bigger noncommercial Talk battle in the Virginia capital, and it’s all thanks to a just-filed deal with one of the biggest buyers of radio stations in the last several years.
