Tribune/Sinclair Merger Meltdown Lawsuit Settled, To Nexstar’s Benefit

In August 2018, a Delaware Chancery Court received a breach of contract complaint filed by Tribune Media against the company most believed until just two months earlier it would be merging with — Sinclair Broadcast Group.

The legal slap resulted in a retort from Sinclair, as it fired back in late August 2018 with its own breach of contract claims against Tribune and request for monetary damages.

Until Monday, the legal battle was still on in America’s First State. Now, it has concluded, thanks to a settlement that gives Tribune’s new owner — Nexstar Media Group — cash and another TV station.

The resolution also brings Nexstar the Rio Grande Valley’s CBS affiliation.
