TV and LPTV swapped in northern Wyoming

0

You don’t see one like this every day. A fully-licensed television station is being swapped for a low power television in Sheridan WY, and the station getting to low power stick is paying a little extra. The fact is, in this case the two stations are putting out a very similar wattage. The station being sold is KSWY-TV, bringing NBC to Sheridan WY as a satellite of a Casper WY station. Its licensee, Bozeman Trail Communications Company, is trading it and paying an additional $40K in exchange for KJCW-LP. The FCC database lists KSWY at 9 kw, and KJCW at 8 kw.

RBR/TVBR observation: Despite its association with Casper’s KCWY-TV in Casper, KSWY is considered to be part of the Rapid City SD market. It really isn’t close to either; in fact, looking at a map, the nearest DMA appears to be Billings MT.
