The Columbian novela that spawned “Ugly Betty,” “Yo Soy Betty, La Fea,” has already aired once in the US, but it’s back on TeleFutura and drawing viewers again. The network reports that the first episode drew nearly a million viewers, nearly tripling TeleFutura’s average audience for the previous four Mondays.
The international hit novela aired sometime back on Telemundo after first appearing on Columbia’s RCN in 1999. Since then, ABC’s primetime series adaptation has become a hit in English. So, it’s not surprising that there is a renewed appetite for the Spanish original in the US.
TeleFutura reports that Monday night’s (2/9) much awaited return of the original version of “Yo Soy Betty, La Fea” (I Am Betty, the Ugly) on TeleFutura delivered impressive ratings for the network, attracting nearly one million Total Viewers 2+ and over half a million Adults 18-49. In addition, the premiere episode doubled and in some cases nearly tripled its prior audience among all key demographics.
