MIAMI — Eight years ago, Univision and DISH Network gleefully announced the launch of the first channel dedicated exclusively to coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
In January 2012 it forged a wide-ranging content deal with the DBS provider.
Today, the 2018 FIFA World Cup is delivering record-smashing ratings for Univision’s No. 1 rival, NBCUniversal Hispanic Enterprises‘ Telemundo and Universo.
Further, Univision and DISH aren’t exactly happy with each other. A heated battle over a new retransmission fee agreement has led Univision to warn viewers that tune to its networks via the DBS provider that its signals could go dark soon — signaling an impasse in discussions.
