Soccer may be the big sport for Univision Communications, but football is big for Hispanic America as well. Univision Communications announced a new three-year deal and expanded partnership with the NFL across multiple platforms.

Univision will serve as an Official Hispanic Media Partner of select NFL events surrounding Super Bowl XLVI (Indianapolis), Super Bowl XLVII (New Orleans) and Super Bowl XLVIII (New York/New Jersey). Univision Radio will also continue to serve as the official Spanish-language network radio broadcaster of the NFL, as well as for the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets and the Oakland Raiders, and jointly operate the official Spanish-language website of the NFL (NFL.com/espanol) in 2011.

“This expanded partnership with the NFL builds on Univision’s commitment to become the premiere sports destination for U.S. Hispanics,” said Alexander “Sandy” Brown, president of Sports, Univision Communications Inc. “For the next three years, we will continue to provide Hispanic NFL fans with a comprehensive multiplatform experience around some of the most popular events which occur during Super Bowl weekend, as well as dedicated year-round coverage on network TV, radio and online.”

“We are pleased to expand our partnership with Univision, giving fans a more in-depth and interactive experience across Univision’s platforms,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL vice president of fan strategy and marketing.  “We look forward to growing our partnership as we remain committed to providing customized content to our growing Hispanic fan base.”

Univision is the Official Hispanic Media Partner of the “Pepsi Música Super Bowl Fan Jam” concert; “Tazón Latino Presentado por Pepsi,” a flag football game featuring former NFL players and Latino celebrities; and the NFL Experience, the NFL’s interactive theme park that annually precedes the Super Bowl.

“Pepsi Música Super Bowl Fan Jam” and “Tazón Latino Presentado por Pepsi” will air as television specials during Super Bowl weekend each year. Univision will also provide coverage of all the Super Bowl activities across all of its platforms.

In addition to Super Bowl related events, Univision will continue to produce an NFL segment in the network’s #1 sports entertainment program “República Deportiva” (Sports Republic),  and twice-weekly segments in “Contacto Deportivo” (Sports Contact), the only nightly Spanish-language sports highlights and recap program in the U.S. broadcast on TeleFutura.  These segments connect audiences with the content of www.nfl.com/espanol to expand on the unique, multi-platform fan experience delivered by Univision.

For the last three years, Univision Interactive Media has worked with the NFL in developing the league’s official Spanish-language website, NFL.com/espanol. The site provides the most in-depth information on the NFL and offers Spanish-language video highlights of all NFL games to a worldwide audience. In addition to video highlights and photo galleries of players and teams, the site includes up-to-date stats, exclusive news from around the league, live radio broadcasts, Top 10 plays of the week, one-on-one player interviews, an inside look at all 32 NFL teams, and a customized version of Fantasy Football.
