MIAMI — There have been a flurry of negative reports regarding the health of — and future of — Univision Communications. In early June, there was unfounded buzz that Cumulus Media was seriously considering a purchase of a significant number of Univision Radio stations. By mid-July, it became clear that its Gizmodo and online properties such as The Onion were to be shed; Isaac Lee, the man who suggested they be purchased by Univision, is gone as Chief Content Officer.
Even with the bad headlines, Univision remains a force in the Hispanic market. As such, it is solidifying its Puerto Rico station lineup and, in doing so, takes advantage of duopoly rule changes recently made by the FCC.
