WBA Summer Conference coming to La Crosse

Mark June 22-23 on your calendar if you’re a Wisconsin Broadcasters Association member. Those are the dates of the WBA Summer Conference, and it’s being held in La Crosse, Wisc.


And, there are options — including a golf outing.

Wednesday, June 22 starts with a “play your own ball” outing, or an alternative: The WBA Media Technology Institute (MTI). Tuesday and Thursday will be devoted to essential technology topics including antenna, transmission and other RF concepts and discussions of data networking for communication systems. A discussion the business of broadcasting, the role of a chief operator and what to expect during an inspection is also on the agenda.

MTI attendees will join the WBA Engineering Day conference sessions on Wednesday.

A third option involves conference sessions.

9 a.m. – 10 a.m. and 4-5:15 p.m.

Want to have more confidence and greater influence when you speak? Whether you’re a broadcaster, sales professional, business executive or educator, the way in which you use your voice can have very different outcomes. This lively, interactive session will teach you techniques to harness the power of your voice to communicate with audiences more effectively, whether you’re behind a microphone or in front of a boardroom. Among other things, your trainers, Amy Tardif and George Bodarky will teach you how to improve vocal variety, and have greater expressiveness.

 

10:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
How You Can Connect to Today’s Student
This panel discussion with members of the WBA Education Committee is aimed at helping broadcasters understand today’s college students and how best to connect with them about careers in broadcasting.
A legislative update is on tap for 4 p.m.

The Thursday agenda includes an economic update from Mark Consigny at U.S. Bank, a cybersecurity and internet safety session with WLKG in Lake Geneva’s Nancy Douglass, and a Keynote luncheon featuring Tom Thibodeau. A presentation of “Local Broadcast Legends” honors will see honors bestowed upon Jonathan Green, Mike Hayes, Terry West, and Tom Zalaski.

The day concludes with a presentation from Kwik Trip, a regional convenience store; and Juan Galdamez of Xperi Corp. on the connected car, ahead of a Hall of Fame Reception and Dinner.
