If you’re familiar with the Chicago market, you know that CBS O&O WBBM-TV dominated the ratings for much of the time that Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson co-anchored the 10 pm news. The powerhouse duo is being reunited, but in a different time slot. And they’re not the only ones making a return engagement.

After four years at sister O&O WCBS-TV New York, Kate Sullivan is coming back to WBBM to co-anchor the 5 pm and 10 pm newscasts with Rob Johnson, who has been flying solo. The new lineup takes effect September 1st.

“The teams of Rob and Kate and Bill and Walter represent the core values of CBS 2 News – aggressive journalism combined with excellent, contemporary storytelling,” said Jeff Kiernan, WBBM Vice President and News Director.

“We just ask you to make room for our oxygen bottles and walkers,” Kurtis quipped in a staff meeting quoted on the WBBM website. He and Jacobson previously co-anchored the 10 pm newscast on the station from 1973 to 1982.

Kurtis has most recently hosted a number of crime and documentary shows on A&E. Jacobson had returned to WBBM in recent years doing commentaries after anchoring at WFLD-TV (Fox) from 1993 to 2006.
