Week 49: 'America's Got Talent' and 'SNF' powers NBC

Paced by the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of “America’s Got Talent” and the “NBC Sunday Night Football” preseason Saints-Raiders game, which were all among the top telecasts of the week in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures, NBC averaged a 1.6 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers overall for the week of August 22-28, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research. 


For the week, NBC ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures and tied for #1 in adults 18-34 and men 18-49, while ranking #1 outright among women 18-34.

NBC placed three primetime telecasts in the top five on the broadcast networks this week in the key demographic of adults 18-49, including the #1 and #2 shows of the week. 

Tuesday’s edition of “America’s Got Talent” ranked #1, the “NBC Sunday Night Football” preseason game in which the New Orleans Saints defeated the Oakland Raiders 40-20, ranked #2 and the Wednesday “America’s Got Talent” Results Show ranked #5 (tied). 

Also ranking among the top programs of the week in adults 18-49 was Monday’s telecast of “American Ninja Warriors,” which ranked #15 (rankings exclude all football pre-game and post-game telecasts).

With 12.0 million and 11.1 million viewers respectively, the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of “America’s Got Talent” were the #1 and #2 programs of the week in total viewers. “NBC Sunday Night Football” (9.3 million) ranked #4.

This marks the 11th consecutive week (since the week of June 13-19) that NBC has programmed the #1 telecast of the week on the broadcast networks in both adults 18-49 and total viewers.

Primetime averages for the week of August 22-28 in adults 18-49 were CBS (1.7/5), NBC (1.6/5), ABC (1.4/4), Fox (1.1/3) and CW (0.3/1).  In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (6.4 million), NBC (5.5 million), ABC (5.0 million), Fox (3.1 million) and CW (0.8 million).
