At 10:42am, Andy Grammar’s “Don’t Give Up On Me” could be heard on Hot AC WRQX-FM “Mix 107.3,” until 7pm Eastern a Cumulus Media station.
It’s perhaps a fitting song for what some may believe is the start of a downward trend for FM radio, and for the radio industry.
With WRQX’s end, along with that of New York sibling WPLJ-FM, on Friday afternoon (5/31), questions abound as to whether any entity other than the stations’ buyer, Educational Media Foundation, could have swooped in to buy the properties.
One broker who spoke with RBR+TVBR believes the answer in this case is no, and few buyers will emerge until the FCC makes ownership rule changes.
